Minsk, Belarus – 2014 IIHF World Championship
Belarus has applied for 2014 IIHF World Championship and is longing to make it a great time for teams, families and thousands of cheering fans!
We are a true hockey nation making enormous steps towards getting the world most exciting high-caliber hockey event. We are prepared to celebrate ice hockey in 2014 and the whole nation will be immensely honored and proud to host the World Championship.
Meet the welcoming capital – Minsk
Minsk is a safe and comfortable city that bursts with green every spring to win the love of countless visitors from all over the globe.
Both venues for the event will be situated in Minsk, where all hotels and arenas are within quick and easy reach for teams, media and fans.
Belarus stands out among other applying nations
In its bid to host the World Championship in 2014 Belarus will compete with other applying states (Hungary, Latvia and Ukraine). Today Belarus is the only country in the Top 10 of the IIHF World Ranking that has never had a chance to host a world championship.
We’ve improved on experience from earlier bids
Looking at the former bids of 2010, 2011 and 2013 that Belarus has in store, we have improved and polished our plans and walked an extra mile to make Minsk venues the most state-of-the-art battlefield for world class hockey stars.
One city provides the two venues
Both venues for the event will be situated in Minsk, within a max of 15-minutes drive from the city centre. This makes life much easier for both participants and fans, especially when it comes to the play-offs. The first rink, Minsk Arena, will accommodate 15,000 fans, while the second venue will seat some 8,000!
Ice hockey is in the backbone of our healthy and cheerful nation whose fans are impatient to see the world’s hockey heroes in Minsk.
Welcome to Belarus and let’s enjoy the most breathtaking hockey tournament in 2014!
